David Pinheiro Vicente began his film career as an art director and assistant director in films by artists such as Gabriel Abrantes and Salomé Lamas. Between 2018 and 2020, he completed the two short films comprising his filmography, both of which have been acclaimed at some of the world’s most prestigious film festivals — competing for the Golden Bear in Berlin and the Palme d’Or in Cannes. We understand, through the two short films, that his work addresses, in a central way, questions of the body and spirit, proposing to investigate the complexities of physical and spiritual growth. Where the Summer Goes (2018) and The Lamb of God (2020) are like translucent and tactile tableaux vivants of the feeling of youth.
The second New Moon of Batalha will be dedicated to his work and the idea of cinema that his films translate as portraits of the beautiful and intricate dimension of our first rites of passage.
Screening followed by talk with David Pinheiro Vicente and Guilherme Blanc.
