Paulo Rocha’s second feature film features music by Carlos Paredes as the backdrop to a story in which Adelino, a fisherman, returns to Furadouro after completing his military service in Africa. On discovering that Júlia — the woman he always loved — has married his brother Raimundo, Adelino becomes disillusioned with the direction that life has taken during his absence. He decides to look for work in a factory, where he meets the wild, free-spirited Albertina, who challenges him to leave the small fishing village with her and start a new life together. The screened version is a digital restoration developed by the filmmaker himself — the majority completed before his death — with supervision from the director Pedro Costa.
Screening preceded by a talk with Isabel Ruth (actress) and Tiago Bartolomeu Costa (programmer)
