Founded in 2018 by the Berlin-based DJs Lakuti (South Africa) and Tama Sumo (Germany), Bring Down the Walls is an anti-racist and multiracial cultural platform with music at its core. The project aims to go beyond conventional music consumption and create a space for dialogue. For the series the hosts have devised a special presentation to share insights into the birth and roots of house music in the early 80s, and the wrongfully forgotten female producers, singers and DJs who helped to shape it, such as Yvonne Turner, Loleatta Holloway, ESG, Kym Mazelle, Liz Torres, Barbara Tucker, Adeva, Crystal Waters, DJ Sharon White, Stacey Hotwaxx Hale, Kelli Hand and many more. Along the way they’ll present classic tracks of the genre and invite everyone to join the conversation.
