Directed by and starring Jane Birkin, the autobiographical Boxes tells the story of Anna, a middle-aged woman who has just moved to a new house in Brittany. The boxes piled up in the rooms of the new residence hold memories from her past — forcing her to relive the different phases of her life and confront the ghosts that still haunt her. Evoking Birkin’s career trajectory, each of the three boxes represents a marriage and the birth of a daughter. The film, which premiered at Cannes, features performances from Geraldine Chaplin, Michel Piccoli, Adèle Exarchopoulos (in her first film role) and Lou Doillon, Birkin’s daughter.
