In March, Batalha presents Passagens, the first monographic publication dedicated to the filmmaking practice of João Salaviza and Renée Nader Messora, a pair of directors who, since 2014, have collaboratively developed a unique, internationally recognized body of work. In recent years, the couple have focused on the life and history of the Krahô, an indigenous Brazilian people. The result of prolonged contact and joint work with the people was Chuva é Cantoria na Aldeia dos Mortos (2019), awarded the Jury Prize at Cannes, and A Flor do Buriti (2023), which will have its commercial premiere in Portugal this month.

Passagens deals transversally with concerns, affinities and speculations around the work of Salaviza and Messora, through essays by Creuza Krahô, Jacques Lemière, Joana Pimenta, Justin Jaeckle, Paz Encina, Philippe Descola, Wellington Cançado and Renata Marquez. At the same session, a video essay of the same name by Luísa Homem, Wellington Cançado and Renata Marquez will be screened for the first time, drawing on the visual essay that Cançado and Marquez dedicated to the duo's work.

The screening will be followed by a conversation with the filmmakers moderated by journalist and film critic Vasco Câmara. Free entrance upon ticket pickup on the same day. Limited to two tickets per person.
