Developed by Selwa Abd during her artistic residency at the ISSUE Project Room in 2022, As If Reality? is inspired by the book Reality+: Virtual Worlds and the Problems of Philosophy, by David Chalmers, to follow a creative approach based on intuition and fragment-based systems. According to Chalmers, as the physical world deteriorates, virtual worlds offer new landscapes and possibilities. Based on this premise, Selwa Abd builds worlds ( both sound and visual) as simulations that allow creative research to expand and speculate about the future. As If Reality? confronts the audience with contradictory realities, leading them to think about the fate of humanity in the midst of planetary decline.
