A reference point for the collective childhood imagination, The Witches is based on a novel by the famous writer of children’s books Roald Dahl, author of other stories later adapted for film such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Gremlins. Luke, a boy of 10, goes on holiday with his grandmother (Mai Zetterling), who has told him tales of witches since he was little. The eccentric hotel they stay in is hosting a congress that intends, they realise, to exterminate all the children in the world. With the help of his grandmother, Luke fights against the evil forces of the witches.
