The first feature film by Jan Švankmajer — one of the leading names in Czech animation who has influenced artists such as Tim Burton and Terry Gilliam — is a free adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice in Wonderland. Using real-life imagery and stop-motion animation, the film accompanies, in a dark and surreal setting, a child who follows his toy rabbit and ends up entering a portal inhabited by peculiar characters. Alice won the Best Film Award at the prestigious Annecy Animation Film Festival.
