On Batalha’s opening night, between 11:30pm and 2am, our two screens will show two films on loop by Agnieszka Polska, the Polish artist to whom the Centro de Cinema will dedicate a Focus in December.

The climate emergency, mass extinction and disinformation are central themes in the shorts The New Sun (2017) and What The Sun Has Seen (2017). Both films feature a Sun with melancholic eyes who, in a monologue, celebrates and satirises human decadence on a planet undergoing ethical and environmental collapse. Employing software animation and a strong musical component, the two films are simultaneously serious and playful, compelling us to reflect on human, individual and collective action.

The New Sun will be presented in Sala 1 and What The Sun Has Seen in Sala 2. The entry is free.
