A landmark of British cinema, A Taste of Honey follows the hopes and dreams of a group of people as they navigate the economic precariousness of industrial Manchester. Starring Rita Tushingham in her debut role, the film follows Jo, a pregnant teenager neglected by her self-centred mother. Abandoned by the child's father, a black cook, the young woman finds support in a homosexual friend. One of the revolutionary films of the British New Wave of the early 1960s, this Tony Richardson drama is still acclaimed today for its uncompromising approach to sexuality, social issues and everyday working-class life.
