Inspired by the work of Bertolt Brecht and shot in the old industrial abattoir in Porto, A Santa Joana dos Matadouros is a meta-cinematic essay about the job market during the European economic crisis. The film explores cinema’s potential within its relationship with theatre, bringing together a cast of professional and amateur actors, well-known artists from a range of disciplines, and a group of unemployed people living in Vale de Campanhã.
