Inspired in the legends of the selkies — mythological creatures that live as seals on sea, but become human on land — Song of the Sea is a story for the whole family, evoking the spiritual connection to the ocean and ancestral irish rites. This animated film, nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, follows Ben and his younger sister Searsha, a seal-child, the last of its kind. One day, both escape their grandmother's watchfulness and embark on an underwater voyage to free the magical creatures from the dangers they have been set upon by a witch.
