Batalha presents the premiere of the commissioned work Os Amigos do Gaspar: A Reunion in the City. More than three decades after it was originally broadcast, we revisit this children’s programme that captured the imagination of a generation, through a new film and performance that will introduce it to new generations.

This new staging uses music from the album Sérgio Godinho Canta com Os Amigos do Gaspar (1988) — with lyrics by Sérgio Godinho and music by Jorge Constante Pereira, who co-created the series with João Paulo Seara Cardoso — to transport the characters from the 80s to the present. With today’s Porto as their backdrop, Gaspar and his group of friends take on new adventures, bringing back the magic and fun of a different time.

With a team made up of original crew members and new contributors, the film project, directed by Duarte Coimbra, is the result of an ongoing research project involving restoration of the puppets. It will premiere on Batalha Centro de Cinema’s one year anniversary.
