Guided tours at Batalha offer a path through the history, spaces and architecture of the building. Over the course of an hour, visitors receive an overview of the various life phases that Batalha has passed through, from its inception as the High-Life cinema by Neves & Pascaud, up to the contemporary renovation project by the architects Alexandre Alves Costa and Sérgio Fernandez.
Along the way, there are insights into the original modernist building designed by Artur Andrade in 1947, its fascinating decorative elements and the censorship of Júlio Pomar’s murals. The functional history of the building is explored further by giving access to otherwise private spaces such as the rooftop, with views of Praça da Batalha, and the projection rooms.
Tours are led by members of the Batalha team with occasional support from special guests. They take place on the first Saturday of each month and are delivered in Portuguese.
