Programme:
Commissioned by the Gaumont Film Company from Jean Vigo, this short film focuses on swimmer Jean Taris, a French athlete who competed in the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympic Games. The film follows him underwater as he twists in on himself, moving closer and further away, as if dancing in front of the lens. Technically innovative, the film served as inspiration for some scenes in the feature film L’Atalante (1934).
