In 1947, when Cinema Batalha first opened its doors to the public, Le Voyage dans la Lune was one of the films screened in the opening gala. Mankind first walked on the moon 22 years later, in 1969, when the Apollo 11 module containing Neil Armstrong and his two colleagues landed on lunar soil. But it was Georges Méliès who, in the early days of cinema, was responsible for the very first trip to the moon. Among a group of long-bearded wizards a clever plan is hatched, and they get to work building a rocket. After encountering sinister monsters on the moon, these pioneering astronauts return to Earth as heroes, having taken on the great unknown of outer space.
