Programme:
Halfway through the 1990s, Portugal was opening itself up like never before to new forms of community. The “cut” in Haircut represented, above all, a break from the past and uncertainty regarding the future. Rita is set to marry Paulo, but she decides to put the groom to the test by cutting his long hair. In his first feature-length film, Sapinho demonstrates how new modes of affection may arise in the most improbable forms, between a backward machismo and the hesitant liberation of women. This is an intense and physical film that dared to look at the world with fresh eyes.
