A non-place between China, Lisbon and New York is the setting for this transcivilisational narrative exploring a game of illusions and desires. Xiao Hong (which means Morning Rainbow) is a young woman of 19 years, married and a mother to one son, who would rather die than be imprisoned by the rules of work, family and money. Her dreams of pop music (here sung by the band Pop Dell’Arte) and a pair of shoes — which evoke the ones that Judy Garland turned into a symbol of Hollywood dreams — persuade her that she must travel to a place that exists only in a post-colonial utopia.
