Inspired by Arthur Schnitzler’s “Dream Story,” Eyes Wide Shut was Stanley Kubrick’s final directorial effort; a vehicle for the real and fictional relationship of Bill / Tom Cruise and Alice / Nicole Kidman, it has been the subject of great speculation and “New World Order” conspiratorial theorising ever since its release at the turn of the millennium. What was Stanley trying to tell us?! Kubrick completed and signed off on his theatrical trailer for the film on March 7 in 1999, and returned home. Later that night as he slept he suffered in a fatal heart attack.
