Programme:
This little-known documentary by Herzog is an anthropological angle on his signature movie-making, studying the Wodaabe people, or “Herdsmen of the Sun”, a nomadic Saharan tribe whose men put on loads of make up and smile madly to try to get led to the bushes by horny women. According to the maker, the rushes for this scene in particular were the last images ever seen by travel writer, Bruce Chatwin, presented to him by Herzog on his death bed.
