Inspired by traditional Portuguese folk tales, this is the black and white story of a child who was born a monster and has, therefore, been condemned to a lonely life. In a Gothic and Expressionist universe, inhabited by unusual characters, we discover marginalised people who live in darkness and roam around at night. O Coveiro, developed in stop-motion and stylistically different from the director’s other films, resembles a lullaby-style film, halfway between a dream and a nightmare, accompanied by rhyming verse written by Gil Mata and narrated by the unmistakable voice of Adolfo Luxúria Canibal.
