Programme:
In a somewhat enthusiastic tone, this National Film Journal — made between 1975 and 1977 by the Portuguese Film Institute's Production Unit No. 1 — explains the process that led to the first legislative elections in Portuguese democracy. Beginning with a visual and performative dimension of the campaign, the film focuses on election day: "Anonymous citizens and prominent men from political and military life said 'here' in the act that, more than any other, equalled them." The report ends with the night of the elections, whose headquarters was the Gulbenkian Foundation, a place that brought together the election commission, journalists and politicians in a true democratic celebration.
