Programme:
This documentary was filmed in 1949, we witness the full process of how to build an igloo through the curious gaze that a settler descendant has when observing indigenous practices. Using only a knife and snow, two members of the Inuit community prepare blocks of ice with which they then build a whole shelter, fast enough to move inside before sunset. The narration explains the ancient method of construction and how the combination of exterior wind and interior heat helps to maintain the structure’s stability.
