A black man presenting as white vows revenge for his brother’s lynching, by seducing and murdering two wealthy, white girls. The film is based on a book by famed French writer and musician, Boris Vian, under the pseudonym ‘Vernon Sullivan’. It is a French book pretending to be American by a white man pretending to be black about a black man pretending to be white. Vian never gave his consent to its movie adaptation, and as such attended its premiere out of morbid curiosity: barely five minutes in he stood up from his seat to declare his disdain for the producers… only to fall down dead from a heart attack.
