Programme:
Bringing together archival images with fictional scenes, Foragers depicts the drama surrounding the collection of wild plants on the hills of Golan, Galilee and Jerusalem. The film reflects on the impact (and political implications) of Israeli environmental protection legislation, which prohibits the gathering of akkoub and za’atar, both traditional flavours in Palestinian cooking. By following the plants on their journey from nature to the kitchen, passing through prosecutions and defences in court, Foragers portrays Palestinian resistance to these laws — an ecological veil for a politics that separates them ever further from their own lands.
