Filmed at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, in Berlin, Conacry forms a geographical triptych (with Cacheu and Cuba) that is part of Luta ca caba inda, a collaborative artistic project, coordinated by filmmaker Filipa César, about the film archive of Guinea-Bissau. The digital restoration of these historic first images of an African nation forged in struggle provides the motto for the artist Grada Kilomba to propose a post-colonial re-reading, evoking the figure of the independence leader and pan-African intellectual Amílcar Cabral and his visionary contribution to the valorisation of images as decolonising acts.
