Programme:
An eminently poetic dystopia, but with obvious references to its contemporary setting (the fascist dictatorship of the Estado Novo in Portugal), this film invents a society where love is forbidden and the intelligence services of the Customs Police begin to pursue a couple accused of inventing love. With narrative influences from film noir and a mise-en-scène very close to the Nouvelle Vague, António Campos makes ingenious use of sound elements to accentuate a climate of paranoia and claustrophobia that involves and captures the audience.
