Considered a masterpiece of African cinema, Touki Bouki focusses on Mory and Anta, a cowherd and student who dream of leaving the Senegalese capital for Paris, hatching a variety of plots for making the money they need for the voyage. With frenetic pacing and an African narrative temporality, the director portrays life in Dakar, questioning its hybridisation through western acculturation and giving body to a generational conflict between tradition and modernity, where clothing takes on the role of protagonist.
