Programme:
Developed in collaboration with the workers of Nipani's tobacco factories, in Karnataka, Tobacco Embers documents one of the largest unorganized labor movements in 80s India, which would eventually influence the unionization movement across the country. For four months, the Yugantar collective followed the routine of these women in the factories, gathering accounts on the precarious working conditions, the harsh punishment and abuse of power, and registering the meetings where strategies were devised to claim their rights.
