A social satire about the Great British state, The White Bus follows the surreal journey of a typist from London to the city of her birth in the North East of England. This short forebodes Lindsay Anderson's distancing from the realism of the British New Wave, telegraphing what would be a blunter satire which will come to light in the later movies If… (1968), O Lucky Man! (1973), and Britannia Hospital (1982).
