Lorenza Mazzetti’s second work, her second adaptation of Kafka, was also produced during her time at the Slade. The Country Doctor is an absurdist fable centred on a doctor who pays an emergency visit to a patient on a winter night, becoming trapped in a web of surreal incidents. The film’s leading role is played by a colleague from Lorenza’s faculty, Victor Willing, who would later marry the Portuguese painter Paula Rego, also a student at the Slade. This short film, which for a long time many had thought lost, was shown for the first time in 2023, after being rediscovered by the makers of Together with Lorenza Mazzetti — a documentary which marks the first and only time that the filmmaker mentioned the work.
