Over the course of 13 years, filmmaker Leilah Weinraub followed the work of the Shakedown Angels, two black strippers linked to the Los Angeles underground lesbian scene, gathering interviews and archives from the Shakedown nightclub — at the time, nearing gentrification and the target of police violence. The result is an intimate and daring film-experience that, interweaving past, present and future, celebrates African-American lesbian culture. Shakedown documents the lived atmosphere and relationships between the protagonists of this world, run by women and on the edge of legality.
