The photographer William Klein, a disciple of Fernand Léger, was known for his ironic take on fashion. This viewpoint was given full rein in his first feature film, a mockumentary centred on Polly Maggoo (Dorothy McGowan), an American model walking the biggest catwalks of Paris under the dominating influence of fashion editor Miss Maxwell (Grayson Hall). Polly becomes a media darling when she is courted by the prince of the fictional kingdom of Borodine. This is an absurd and disjointed fairy tale that satirises the excesses of the world of high fashion and parodies the objectification of women.
