Programme:
Leslie Daiken, an educational researcher who dedicated much of his work to the subject of children’s games, made only this one film. Yet the beauty of these images of children playing in the streets of post-war London in no way betrays the brevity of his relationship with the world of cinema. In an era when the streets belonged fully to children, we see them play between the bomb craters, ruined buildings and rubble left by German forces, unbothered by these markers of the chaotic adult world around them.
