Programme:
A call used by Angolan guerrilla fighters during the colonial period, “Monangambeee” means “death to the white man”. Despite speaking the same language (Portuguese), the perspectives of colonisers and colonised people are divided by the antagonistic and irreconcilable differences in their social, cultural and political contexts. The script by Sarah Maldoror, Mário Pinto de Andrade and Serge Michel adapts the Angolan short story “O Fato Completo de Lucas Matesso” (1967) — written by José Luandino Vieira during his incarceration in the concentration camp at Tarrafal —, denouncing the racist torture and violence of the colonial regime.
