A cult film that infuriated punk circles in Britain — including the fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, who criticised the work via an open letter to the director printed on a t-shirt — Jubilee follows Queen Elizabeth I on a voyage 400 years into the future, where she finds a London mired in corruption and squalor and governed by a band of anarchist rebels. An imposing cinematic milestone in the punk aesthetic of the 1970s, the film is a subversive exercise in anarchist satire, with a soundtrack by Brian Eno and a series of appearances by vital figures from the punk scene, such as Siouxsie Sioux and Adam Ant.
