Programme:
Hyperfate is a visual memento mori of rap culture, questioning fate, and asking how did rap, synonymous with initiatory narratives and success, become a mortuary factory for tragic heroes. The film challenges the jaded sensationalism surrounding rapper deaths by delving into the reflective, philosophical thoughts of Oyiri. In the film, the artist appears as a young Black girl, expressing her voice as this of a disillusioned French woman and rap enthusiast. As she journeys through American urban streets, her narrative merges with her personal experiences and those of Black rappers — like Tupac, Pop Smoke, and Takeoff — whom she admires. Music becomes this spiritual and cosmic lens, blending fate, race, and existential reflection in this ambient, artful eulogy.
