Sharing its title with another of Cronenberg’s films from 1970, Crimes of the Future is an entirely different story, though it does mark a return to his infamous body horror. In a future in which people no longer feel pain, bodily experimentation pushes all the boundaries. A pair of artists (Viggo Mortensen and Léa Seydoux) transform surgeries into performances, which serve as a vehicle for a disconcerting philosophical discussion about the horizons of human evolution, the fusion between biology and technology, and transhumanism.
