Returning to the familiar territory where sex, violence and technology intermingle, Crash is one of his most controversial films — and also one of the director’s greatest successes, winning him the Special Jury Prize at Cannes. Based on the novel by J.G. Ballard, it follows the producer James Ballard (James Spader), who, following a serious car crash, discovers a group of people who derive sexual pleasure from automobile accidents. Gradually, he surrenders himself to this underworld of eroticism and mutilation, where the search for transcendence and connection is undertaken through the medium of trauma.
