Programme:
Inspired by an Algarve legend about a forbidden love, Bela Mandil follows the journey of two lovers from other times, cursed, who wander in a fishing village under the scorching heat of the southern lands. With texts by Almeida Garrett and Luís Vaz de Camões, the film alternates between the couple’s poetic declamations and a documentary look at the fishermen, disturbed by this mystical presence. A short film about the coexistence between the echoes of the past and the present, premiered at the Viennale.
