A Força do Atrito
Pedro M. Ruivo

Surely one of the most neglected films of the 1990s, A Força do Atrito is our Mad Max. Filmed with a spectacular apocalyptic mise-en-scène, it tells the story of a country in a brutal economic crisis and divided into zones to avoid contamination from a nuclear accident. The film follows a group of men far from civilisation who are looking for the most basic means of survival. An encounter with an old petrol dealer and his daughter sparks both lust and love, leading to a quarrel between them. A warm film, with an arid photography, where the torrid, metallic yellow of the image is the symbol of a disease that affects everyone.
