Programme:
Part of a triad of short documentary films, "Una isla para Miguel" explores the construction of masculinity in the new Cuban identity, 10 years after the revolution. Miguel, one of 12 children from a poor neighborhood in Havana, is sent by his family to the "Isla de Pinos" to become a new man. Gómez points his camera at this territory, where the marginalized (young people, blacks, the poor, homosexuals, religious people, hippies) were sent for forced labor and re-education. The film was restored by the L'Immagine Ritrovata laboratory and presented at the Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival.
