Programme:
Premiering in August 1946 at the Cinema Ginásio in Lisbon, Três Dias Sem Deus was the first feature-length fiction film to be made by a woman in Portugal. The film, which was selected for that year’s Cannes Festival, had a duration of around 102 minutes when it was first screened. Of those, only 26 minutes remain, for which the sound has also been lost. Lídia, a young teacher, is sent to a remote village. When the priest and doctor leave, the village faces three days “without God”. Lídia encounters Paulo Belforte, a fearsome man, setting in motion a chain of misunderstandings that culminate in conflict and violence.
