Body autonomy, queer sexuality, reproductive desire and normativity are some of the themes addressed in Tornar-se um Homem na Idade Média, which brings together the stories of Mirene and André, a heterosexual couple dealing with the problem of infertility, and Carl and Vicente, a homosexual couple who seek out an experimental procedure in an attempt to have a biological child. Winner of the award for Best Short Film in Rotterdam, the film merges a classical narrative with speculative fiction and the possible uses of medicine for transforming the body, a topic present in many works by Cronenberg — named as an influence by Neves Marques.
