Shown in the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, Basil da Cunha’s second short film — and his first shot in Portugal — follows Nuvem (“Cloud”), a boy particularly prone to wandering and daydreaming, who lives in the centre of the Creole slum in Lisbon. In this neighbourhood, where old fishermen cross paths with rappers, Nuvem is looked at as the village idiot. Disinterested in work, and faced with indifference from the barwoman — with whom he is in love — and disdain from his peers, Nuvem sets off in search of the mysterious sunfish with which to woo her.
