Programme:
Joana Toste is a well-known figure in the world of 21st century Portuguese animation, often making use of humour, and especially irony, to weave small parables that depict the incongruencies and contradictions of our society. With a narrative driven by fado (with the voices of Carminho and Ângelo Freire, and the guitar of Pedro Jóia), this supposedly national song, Guisado de Galinha, picks apart the “deeply Portuguese” but false maxims of “poor but happy” and “neighbourliness”, which form part of our nationalist inheritance.
