Using the Ten Commandments as its thematic and semi-structural inspiration, Dekalog was conceived as a series of 10 episodes to be shown on Polish television. This work, made up of independent episodes, is widely regarded as one of the greatest cinematic achievements of all time. "Dekalog: One" comes close to the Catholic commandment "Love God above all things", as it follows the story of an atheist computer scientist, his son and his naive faith in humanity.
