Programme:
On an agricultural property controlled by white people who speak English (suggesting that the setting is South Africa, not Mozambique — a strategy used by the director to try and avoid censorship), Black workers are exploited, physically attacked and coerced by a Black foreman. An older worker succumbs on the same day that his daughter is raped by the foreman, leading to an attempted revolt. Based on a short story by Luís Bernardo Honwana, delivered in Ronga (a Mozambican dialect) and shot in secret, this film-denunciation sought to raise awareness about the anti-colonial struggle among Mozambicans by portraying colonialist violence.
