Programme:
Focussing on “the body as a wound that never heals”, in the words of the directors, Cut is a collage film combining excerpts from 95 works made between 1947 and 2012 — including four by Cronenberg. Through a series of shots of cuts, sutures, scars and blood, Girardet and Muller construct a pseudo-cyclic narrative of free association that acts simultaneously as an act of violence and of creativity. Cut demonstrates film’s fascination with lacerations — real and metaphorical — of the body, and how our awareness of its fragility affects us.
