Inspired by the experience of Věra Chytilová, one of the most important voices of the Czech New Wave, as a model, Ceiling follows a day in the life of a young woman who takes a break from medical school to dedicate herself to fashion — exploring the psychological and social pressures to which she is subjected. The filmmaker's final work — she managed to get the film made and fool the censors with a fake script — fuses elements of cinema verité and experimental editing to give shape to the protagonist's restlessness, in a critique of the role of women in society.
